Delta Eta Pledges Rebab of Sigma Nu House, Needs Help
It is believed that the house, had already fallen into disrepair by the time the fire alarm was pulled in January of 2014. Firefighters navigated through piles of garbage looking for the source of a thick chemical haze. City fire inspector, Rich Campos, found 62 violations and deemed the building unsafe for residents. The local chapter of the organization was later suspended, and the City of Lincoln condemned the property.
Now, 10 years later, the Sigma NU house located at 625 N 16th street sits vacant, a frequent target for vandals.
Built in 1927, it was designed by Anderson & Spooner of Council Bluffs and N.R. Brigham, the Omaha partner of that firm. Its’ Spanish Colonial architecture is unique within the Greek Row Historic District, a district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
Delta Eta announced that they intend to rebuild. Though the cost of the renovation seems insurmountable (in excess of $5M), the Delta Eta Project is committed to raising the money and to rebuilding their professional organization.
The Preservation Association of Lincoln applauds Delta Eta’s efforts to preserve this historic property. Please join us in getting the word out about the Delta Eta Project, and consider donating to the cause.
